Finished reading: SPQR by Mary Beard.

A long history of Ancient Rome, ending abruptly a few centuries after Christ. I learned a lot from this book, but the author does you no favors to help keep straight dozens of similar names and timelines. (She also mixes timelines together and assumes you remember every previous story and date in the book. I have a good memory, but just a little help, please.)

A good book that, with a better editor, could have been great.
